Robert May's Year 5 RAF Science Project Final
This week saw the showdown between Hook and Greenfield's Junior school in their Science projects at RAF Odiham.
The projects began back at the start of the year where our year 9 Science Ambassadors taught year 5 students a lesson on air resistance and forces. The RAF then briefed teams on their mission: To successfully land a volume of water from a (model) Chinook to a village stricken by Storm Eunice.
Since then, Teams across the schools have worked hard to build a model and prepare a presentation showing the scientific reasoning and design process. The top two teams from each junior school entered into the final this week.
During the final our Year 9 Science Ambassadors played a central role in judging the drops from the Chinook hanger. They also formed part of the boardroom, judging the presentations alongside Station Commodore, before getting a tour of a Chinook.
After much deliberation, huge congratulations goes to team 'WHAT' from Hook Junior school who were awarded the RMAYs Science Award for their excellent presentation and scientific understanding. The overall winner of the RAF Trophy was awarded to the 'Footballers' from Greenfields for the sheer ingenuity of their design and for showing a clear evolution in the design process.
Congratulations to all involved and a massive thank you to our Robert May's Science Ambassadors: Isabelle, Alex, Dylan, Will, Leila and Maddie.
Thank you also to Chief Tech Graham Brown and his team of STEM Ambassadors at RAF Odiham who made the event such a success.
