Rotary STEM/Computing Hampshire Competition

We took 12 fantastic Computer Science students to the well organised and inspirational Rotary STEM Competition during March.

They were competing against several schools, hosted by Basingstoke College of Technology. Our RMS students were engaged from the start, creating a catapulting contraption from materials given and a portfolio of their project planning and designs. Working in groups of 4, I am so pleased with their use of computational thinking, using all the elements (abstraction, decomposition and algorithmic thinking) taught during their RMS learning. Keeping this in mind, these students understood the connection between using these computational thinking methods to plan, design and implement their innovative ideas, so much so that they came first in two categories! I am beyond proud of them -they are creative technical geniuses - and it will be a joy to see how they develop in their computer science classes/learning. After the competition, many of the students were eager to show their friends their winning models, and put them into action during our lessons! They are definite aspirational role models, embodying the RMS character values and representing the school positively. We even pictured in the local Gazette -well done!
