House Pumpkin Carving Competition

We have had a bumper harvest this year at Robert May’s and had some exceptional entrants for our annual pumpkin carving contest!

I cannot put into words how in awe Mrs Mitchell and myself were at seeing the hours of hard work that had gone into designing this year's offerings. Some made us laugh with their concept and others stirred feelings of jealousy with their carving skills. It was a really hard contest and so we decided to award winners for each year group. We also had a staff competition that was hard fought. Every entrant automatically receives Classcharts points as they have supported an out of class event. They are also awarded 5 House points for entering and additional points are awarded to 3rd (15 points), 2nd (30 points) and 1st place (50 points).

The Year 7 entrants took us an age to decide on our top 3. I would like to commend Yehor for his carving skill as well as Aaron and Summer for their amazing concepts - I really do hope that Cinderella finally arrives at the ball! Noah's ‘pumpkin in a pumpkin’ received 3rd place whilst the characterisation of Flossie's pumpkin stood out to receive 2nd place. The winner, from Evie in Rose House just pipped them both to top spot with the added use of props.

In Year 8, the top 3 had E.T coming home, pumpkin stitch work and a more gruesome pairing that got the top spot. The more I look at E.T the more impressive it gets and this was designed by Sophie. 2nd went to Abbi and 1st went to the double trouble pairing from Dan from Chinook House.

Jonny came 3rd in Year 9 with his inspired design whilst Marianne just missed out on top spot with her beautifully carved pumpkin. However, 1st place went to Emily from Castle House.

Year 10 gave us some interesting designs but the top 2 were chosen due to their themes. 2nd place went to Emily with her sustainable theme whilst 1st place went to William, from Jubilee House, with his corporate image shining through!

Finally, the staff top 3 were from Mrs Green, Miss Herbert and Miss Harding. Mr Warman (well his son) came an agonizingly 4th place. All were amazing but Miss Harding (Chinook House) blew away the competition with her trick or treat concept.

I really loved judging the pumpkin carving event this year and I would like to reiterate my thanks to everyone who entered for their time and effort. However, this is a House competition and when adding all the points together, congratulations goes to...

CHINOOK HOUSE!
