Chess Tournament at Oakmoor School
On Thursday we set off for our first Chess Tournament which was held at Oakmoor School in Bordon.
Nine students entered from RMS across the year groups where we were joined by other local schools. There was a range of experience and ability across the schools but overall, the standard was very high. Even before the competition started, there were numerous practice games in progress, with others watching and assisting moves.
Five of our students made it into the knockout stages. Alex K made it all the way through to the semi-final where he lost a very close match to the eventual winner of the tournament. Alex came back from his semi-final defeat to win 3rd place – a superb performance in what became in the latter stages, a high-pressure arena with a high class field.
Well done to all our students. We’re already talking about going next year. RMS holds a chess club after school on Thursdays in room M9 with Mr Peake if any students would like to come and practice their gameplay.
Thank you to Oakmoor School for organising what was a fantastic day.
